Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Plumber for Desoto Correctional Institution in Arcadia, FL. This open competitive Career Service position is in the Maintenance Department.

It Reports to the local office and focuses on installation and repair of plumbing, LP gas, waste collection and potable water systems in a major institution. Responsibilities include tests, records-keeping, and training inmates in plumbing tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1+ year experience in plumbing OR 4+ years plumbing trade with training substitute.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Capability to supervise inmates in plumbing tasks.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs for plumbing systems, LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sinks, sewer lines, vents, and sanitary fixtures.
• Reads blueprints, plans and organizes work, prepares reports, supervises inmates, participates in training.
• Repairs, replaces, and checks boilers, safety devices, and controls, and cleans boilers, tanks, and water heaters.
