Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Correctional Officer for a full-performance role at a correctional facility. You will ensure care, custody and control and enforce policy, supervise inmates, and interact with visitors and staff while maintaining safety and security.

A high-stress environment and required Academy training are noted. Requirements include a high school diploma, at least one year of related experience or substitutions with relevant coursework, and mandatory examinations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of full-time or equivalent experience in corrections, probation/parole, police, or related field.
• Substitution: 1 year of college coursework per 30 hours may substitute.
• Must pass psychological, medical, physical performance tests and drug screening.
• Background checks and licensing requirements as described.

Responsibilities

• Provide security over adult inmates and maintain safe confinement.
• Supervise daily activities of inmates and observe/document behavior.
• Interact with visitors, staff, and inmates to maintain orderly operations.
• Respect safety procedures and enforce policy and procedure.
• Work involves a high degree of mental stress and requires academy training.
