Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office in Sioux Falls, SD is hiring Correctional Officers to maintain safety and security within our jail. The next new hire class begins November 30, 2026 with additional hiring planned for early 2027.

Officers work 12-hour shifts (15 shifts per month) with Fri/Sat/Sun off every other week. Excellent wages ($27.57–$30.40/hr) with potential increases up to $40.85/hr, plus retirement benefits and paid training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate/bachelor's in criminal justice preferred.
• One year of relevant work experience or related corrections background advisable.
• Must have valid driver’s license and be able to pass pre-employment background checks.

Responsibilities

• Keep the facility safe and secure; monitor inmates and conduct routine security checks.
• Respond to emergencies and apply crisis-intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Oversee intake, fingerprinting, and inmate movement; manage documentation and reporting.
