Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office in Sioux Falls, SD is accepting applications for Correctional Officers to maintain safety and security within one of the county's most respected correctional facilities. The new hire class begins November 30, 2026, with additional openings planned in early 2027.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in criminal justice preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep the facility safe and secure through inmate head counts, wellness checks, cell inspections, and security rounds.
• Respond to emergencies, apply crisis-intervention techniques, and de-escalate mental-health situations.
• Oversee intake, fingerprinting, property management, and documentation.
• Maintain order by supervising meals, medication distribution, visitations, and inmate movement.
• Coordinate with agencies, courts, and the jail to support programs and services.
