Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to a security post on any shift.
• Acts as initial commander during emergencies and as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates activities of staff on a shift and ensures attendance and leave reports are accurate.
• Conducts counseling and may recommend disciplinary actions to higher management.
• Supervises searches for contraband and conducts daily inspections of buildings and grounds.
• Inspects facility security, maintains sanitation standards, and monitors inmate housing and movements.
• Performs crisis intervention, uses approved force when needed, and provides emergency services.
