Job summary

The State of Florida is seeking a Corrections Officer Lieutenant for Walton Correctional Institution in DeFuniak Springs, FL. This is an internal promotional opportunity only for current FDC employees.

Salary will be determined by current pay procedures; incumbent supervises officers, coordinates posts, and acts as facility commander during emergencies, with duties extending to training and enforcing security standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers and Sergeants on assigned posts and shifts.
• Serve as initial commander during emergencies and act as facility manager after hours.
• Plan, organize and coordinate post assignments, leave usage and attendance reports.
• Conduct training, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Oversee security procedures, contraband searches, inspections and housing areas.
• Coordinate crisis intervention, use of force within policy, and inmate escort duties.
• Attend mandatory training and perform other related duties as required.
