Job summary

State of Indiana is seeking a Correctional Officer for Westville Correctional Facility in Indiana. This role involves maintaining security in a multi-level facility, supervising incarcerated individuals, and supporting day-to-day operations on a 12-hour shift.

Starting base pay is $22.00/hour with $1/hour differential, totaling approximately $51,278.50 annually. Experience may qualify for higher base pay; benefits and total compensation are described in the official calculator.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Must test negative on all drug screenings.
• Veteran or law enforcement candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work with and around incarcerated individuals per DOC mission.
• Overtime may be required, up to 16 consecutive hours per day.
• Effective communication and report-writing abilities are essential.
• Strong critical thinking and judgment are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain personal safety and the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals.
• Monitor assigned areas for security and activity; ensure schedules.
• Follow established security procedures across the facility.
• Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details and grounds tasks.
• Escort incarcerated individuals to locations for meals, meds, work, and recreation.
• Keep records and file reports on movements, activities, and violations.
• Search housing areas and visitors for prohibited items.
• Attend worksite on a regular schedule; adherence to attendance is essential.
