Job summary

The State of Indiana invites you to join the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle as a Correctional Officer. You will be part of a multi-level security team, safeguarding staff and inmates during 12-hour shifts and supporting program activities where possible.

This demanding role requires vigilance, teamwork, and sound judgment, with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth within the Indiana Department of Correction.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess a valid driver28' s license.
• Willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Must test negative on all drug screenings.
• Veteran or law enforcement candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work with and around incarcerated individuals per DOC mission statement.
• Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime in any shift; up to 16 consecutive hours per day.
• Ability to understand and utilize chemical agents properly.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear directions and completing reports.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety for staff and incarcerated individuals.
• Monitor assigned areas for security and grounds.
• Follow established security procedures.
• Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details.
• Escort incarcerated individuals to and from locations for meals, medicines, work, and recreation.
• Keep records and reports on movements, activities, and rule violations.
• Search housing areas and visitors for unauthorized items.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is required.
