Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office in Sioux Falls, SD, seeks a dedicated Correctional Officer to join our jail team. You will perform inmate head counts, security rounds, and direct supervision to maintain safe operations.

Training is provided; advance through promotions within the jail division. Our benefits include a $1.00/hr night shift differential, bilingual pay for passing exam, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience.
• Preferred associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
• Experience working in corrections and knowledge of legal terminology.
• Effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facility safety and security through inmate head counts, wellness checks, cell inspections, and security rounds.
• Respond to emergencies, apply crisis-intervention techniques, and de-escalate mental-health situations with care.
• Supervise intake, movement, fingerprinting, and documentation to ensure accuracy and security.
• Oversee meals, recreation, medications, visits, and inmate transport to maintain order.
• Serve as liaison between agencies, courts, and jail, manage warrants and protection orders.
• Document movements and actions, maintain equipment, and uphold accountability across shifts.
