Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office in Sioux Falls, SD is recruiting Correctional Officers to ensure safety and security in a growing jail facility. New hires start with 12‑hour shifts, competitive hourly wages, and classroom plus on‑the‑job training.

Officers may receive up to 5% increases in pay at milestones plus a $1.00/hr night shift differential and bilingual pay. Retirement and extensive benefits are also available through the county plan.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience.
• Ability to maintain a clean driving record and pass pre-employment checks.
• Effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Keep the facility safe and secure through inmate head counts, wellness checks, and security rounds.
• Respond to emergencies, apply crisis-intervention techniques, and de-escalate mental-health situations.
• Oversee intake, fingerprinting, documentation, and inmate movement with accuracy and care.
• Supervise recreation, meals, medication distribution, visits and maintain orderly operations.
• Coordinate with agencies and courts, run NCIC checks, manage warrants and protection orders.
• Maintain records and assist with communications, equipment, mail, and supplies.
