Correctional Officer Job Duties:
  • Observe incarcerated individuals' behavior and interactions, and document observations to ensure security and consistent application of behavior change principles.
  • Interact with incarcerated individuals using behavioral techniques to promote problem-solving, behavior change, and social skills; provide positive reinforcement and corrective measures as needed.
  • Patrol facilities, conduct security checks, rounds, and counts; inspect areas for safety deficiencies.
  • Search for contraband in individuals, vehicles, packages, cells, and property.
  • Instruct incarcerated individuals on rules, policies, and expectations, aiding their development and adjustment.
  • Escort individuals, visitors, and staff; verify passes and legal documents.
  • Interact with the public, visitors, and victims, providing information and assistance.
  • Model respectful, pro-social behavior, emphasizing dignity and the potential for change.
  • Maintain logs, prepare reports, and input data into the electronic record system.
  • Supervise and evaluate incarcerated work assignments.
  • Operate security and communication systems, including electronic doors, radios, alarms, CCTV, and control devices.
  • Attend training and professional development sessions.

Qualifications include:
