Job description

Applications are being accepted to establish an ongoing eligibility list in the Corrections Division of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. However at this time, preference will be given to female candidates to meet current staffing needs. To be considered, applicants must complete the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board form DJ-LE-330 as well as the release of information form.

We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Correctional Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining safety and security within the Lincoln County Jail. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage conflicts effectively.

JOB DUTIES:
This non-sworn position, under the direction of the Sheriff and the general supervision of the Jail Administrator, will perform a variety of duties including:

  1. Regularly and predictably reporting for work
  2. Maintaining security and control in the jail
  3. Intervening to stop disturbances
  4. Administering first aid
  5. Conducting searches and inspections
  6. Surveillance of inmates
  7. Care and custody of inmates
  8. Preparing reports and other paperwork

Correctional Officers are required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime as shift rotations dictate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent; valid Wisconsin driver’s license; no felony convictions; satisfactory completion of all required training during time period as established by the agency; strong written and verbal communications skills; experience with and knowledge of computers; ability to work in confined areas under stressful situations. 120-hour jail certification is preferred but not required. Must complete a one-year probationary period.

WAGE:
This is a full-time, hourly position starting at $26.48 to $31.35 based on experience. Lateral transfer for candidates with previous Correctional Officer experience will be given.
