This position involves:
- Patrolling facilities and conducting security checks; inspecting all areas of the institution for safety/security deficiencies; searching individuals, vehicles, packages, mail, equipment, clothing, and offender quarters for contraband items.
- Escorting offenders, visitors, and staff inside and outside the institution; verifying possession of appropriate passes or legal documents; participating in offender counts and verifying offender populations.
- Interacting with the public, visitors, and victims in person or via phone; providing information, security, and assistance.
- Observing offender behavior and interactions; communicating observations to supervisory staff to ensure security and consistent application of offender change principles.
- Assisting offenders in developing problem-solving skills, providing positive reinforcement, and implementing corrective measures when necessary and lawful.
- Role modeling respectful, pro-social attitudes and behaviors to promote positive change among offenders.
- Maintaining logs, preparing reports, and entering information into the DOC electronic offender record system.
- Supervising offender work assignments and evaluating performance.
- Operating security and communication systems, including electronic doors, radios, alarm systems, CCTV, and computer terminals; using weapons and offender control devices as authorized.
- Attending training sessions and seminars; potentially training or leading other staff members.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
