This position involves:
- Patrolling facilities and conducting security checks; inspecting all areas of the institution for safety and security deficiencies; searching individuals, vehicles, packages, mail, equipment, clothing, and offender quarters for contraband.
- Escorting offenders, visitors, and staff inside and outside the institution; verifying possession of passes or legal documents; conducting offender counts and interacting with the public, visitors, and victims to provide information, security, and assistance.
- Monitoring offender behavior and interactions; communicating observations to ensure security and the proper application of offender change principles.
- Engaging with offenders to develop problem-solving skills, providing positive reinforcement, and applying corrective measures when necessary, including informal counseling, sanctions, disciplinary action, or use of physical force, all within legal and policy guidelines. Assisting offenders in developing attitudes and skills for successful institutional life.
- Role modeling pro-social attitudes and behaviors, respecting others, and fostering change through skill development and positive attitudes.
- Maintaining logs, preparing reports, and entering data into the DOC electronic offender record system.
- Supervising offender work assignments and evaluating performance.
- Operating electronic systems, communication devices, alarm systems, CCTV, and computer terminals; using weapons and offender control devices.
- Attending training sessions and seminars; potentially training or leading other staff members.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful passing of psychological tests, background checks, health screenings, urinalysis, and training during the probationary period.
- Some positions may require obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License and endorsements within a specified timeframe.
