Job Summary
We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide general nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a correctional healthcare setting. The LPN will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician and provide routine medical care, medications, treatments, assessments, and emergency assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general nursing care and clinical services within the scope of the LPN license and training.
- Assess inmates' physical and emotional health and report changes or concerns to the RN or physician.
- Check and document vital signs and other health information.
- Prepare and administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Implement nursing care plans as directed by the RN or physician.
- Assist with activities of daily living, hygiene, mobility, transfers, and repositioning when needed.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and CPR when appropriate.
- Assist with medical care and documentation following injuries, illnesses, or other medical incidents.
- Follow infection-control and safety procedures.
- Maintain medical supplies, equipment, and treatment areas.
- Sterilize medical supplies and instruments using approved methods.
- Perform routine clinical tests and procedures as assigned.
- Document medications, treatments, observations, and patient information in electronic medical records.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, healthcare staff, and other facility personnel.
- Participate in required training, meetings, and continuing education.
- Be available to work assigned shifts and overtime as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk stairs and respond to patients throughout the correctional facility.
- Ability to assist with repositioning, transferring, and ambulating patients.
- Ability to push and pull wheelchairs and medical carts.
- Sufficient vision and hearing to safely provide patient care and communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform the physical and manual tasks required for direct patient care.
Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or eligibility to take the Practical Nurse Licensure Examination.
- Ability to document and enter patient information into an electronic medical record system.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
