Job summary

State of Colorado in Buena Vista, CO seeks an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant to provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates in a clinical setting, including clinics, infirmaries, or special needs facilities.

The role requires prescribing from the CDOC formulary, performing exams, ordering tests, assisting in pre/post operative care, and traveling as needed to other facilities.

Qualifications

• Must possess current, valid licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner from the Colorado Board of Nursing or current, valid licensure as a Physician Assistant from the Colorado Medical Board.
• APN specialty must be in General Family Practice (FNP), or Adult Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP); PA specialty must be in Family Medicine and General Practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates in clinical settings (clinic, infirmary, or special needs facility).
• Prescribe medications from the CDOC formulary per guidelines.
• Order labs and imaging; perform minor procedures and provide emergency coverage when needed.
• Travel to other correctional facilities to assist during staffing shortages, and collaborate with other health professionals.
