Job summary

The State of Colorado’s Department of Corrections seeks qualified Advanced Practice Nurses or Physician Assistants to provide medical care for inmates at Buena Vista, CHAFFEE COUNTY. The role includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in clinic and infirmary settings, with opportunities to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants must hold Colorado APN/NP or PA licensure and be willing to obtain RXN authority within six months; travel to other facilities may be required.

Qualifications

• Must hold current, valid Advanced Practice Nurse/NP licensure or Physician Assistant licensure for Colorado.
• Willingness to obtain full prescriptive authority (RXN) within six months of hire.
• Experience in clinical health care, preferably in a correctional environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates in clinical settings.
• Prescribe medications from CDOC formulary per guidelines.
• Perform sick calls, emergencies, chronic care and rounds in infirmaries or facilities.
• Order labs and diagnostic tests; interpret results and intervene as indicated.
• Provide emergency medical coverage and basic life support when needed.
• Assist in post-operative care and coordinate with external providers.
• Participate in policy development and education for staff and offenders.
