Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections – SCI Smithfield, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for direct patient care in a correctional setting. You will support physicians, administer medicines, perform tests, and maintain detailed medical records while ensuring safety and quality of care.

The role requires PA RN licensure (temporary permits acceptable with 1-year licensure target) and adherence to CJIS/background checks.

Qualifications

• Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• If a temporary practice permit is held, you must obtain full RN licensure within 1 year.
• Must pass background check and CJIS clearance.
• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting.
• Assist physicians during examinations and clinics; administer tests and immunizations.
• Provide first aid, CPR, AED use and urgent care as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records and prepare reports.
• Coordinate shift handoffs and communicate essential information across staff.
• Follow infection control procedures to ensure safety and quality of care.
