Job summary

The State of Nevada is seeking a Correctional Nurse 2 in Carson City to provide professional nursing care to offenders in a correctional facility. Responsibilities include evaluating needs, developing nursing diagnoses, administering medications, and maintaining medical charts.

Under supervision, you will conduct sick calls, coordinate with health staff, perform physical assessments, and participate in quality assurance and safety protocols to ensure high standards of care.

Qualifications

• RN license and two years of professional nursing experience; one year in correctional or institutional setting preferred.
• Experience documenting patient status and care plans in medical charts.
• Ability to perform nursing assessments and develop care plans with healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and detect health changes; document findings and report to physicians.
• Prepare care plans and nursing diagnoses; coordinate treatment and health education.
• Administer prescribed medications and supervise distribution of non-prescription meds.
• Conduct sick calls for inmates and perform physical exams and lab specimen collection.
• Maintain medical charts, audit records, and ensure regulatory standards are met.
• Provide emergency care (CPR/first aid) and ensure safe confinement where required.
