Job summary

Physician Affiliate Group of New York, PAGNY, seeks a Mental Health Treatment Assistant to join the Division of Correctional Health Services on Rikers Island. The role involves crisis intervention, patient supervision, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to support mental health care for incarcerated individuals.

This position operates Tue-Sat, 2pm–10pm, in a correctional health environment with opportunities to lead group activities and contribute to safety and therapeutic milieu.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in criminal justice, social services or health-related area is required.
• HS diploma or GED with two years of full-time nursing behavioral health or related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and establish relationships with patients and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis and/or de-escalation interventions as needed.
• Orient patients to unit policies, procedures and routines.
• Identify triggers and report to the treatment team.
• Perform patient checks/rounds as required.
• Communicate clinical matters to Mental Health/DOC or other staff as required; report changes to supervisor.
• Escort patients to groups and required locations.
• Conduct 1:1 monitoring for behavioral management/modification.
• Participate in departmental clinical training; may lead groups on anger management.
• Respond to patient emergencies and coordinate with DOC staff for safety.
• Engage in regular 1:1 supervision with MHTA supervisor.
• Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
• Interface with DOC staff during incidents and debrief custodial staff.
