Job summary

PAGNY is hiring for a Mental Health position located on Rikers Island, reporting to NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services. The role supports mental health care delivery, with a schedule of Sunday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The job emphasizes crisis intervention, teamwork with DOC staff, and supervision for patient behavioral management. Qualification requires an Associate’s degree in a health-related field or related area and relevant experience, plus strong

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services or health-related area.
• High School diploma or GED with two years of full-time experience in Nursing Behavioral Health or related field.
• Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with patients and co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Orients patients to unit policies, procedures and routines.
• Uses crisis/de-escalation techniques when needed.
• Identifies triggers and communicates with treatment team.
• Performs patient checks/rounds as required.
• Communicates clinical matters to Mental Health/ DOC staff and reports changes.
• Escorts patients to groups and required locations.
• Performs 1:1 monitoring for behavioral management.
• Participates in departmental clinical training.
• May lead group activities and documents accordingly.
• Responds to patient emergencies and supports safety of unit.
