Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is seeking a Librarian at River North Correctional Center to deliver library services to inmates, manage the Media Resource Center, and teach library skills.

Applicants must meet Virginia licensing requirements (librarian license eligibility) and hold a MLS/MLIS or a relevant bachelor’s degree from an accredited program. Experience with educational libraries and staff supervision is valued.

Qualifications

• Eligible for a Virginia Teaching License from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in Library Media Pre K-12; requires a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s in Library Science (MLS/MSLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited college or university.
• Must be eligible for a Librarian’s license through the Library of Virginia.
• Experience with library policies/procedures and managing a library in public or educational settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality library services for incarcerated individuals, including maintaining an organized Media Resource Center, teaching library skills, and selecting/organizing library material.
