Job summary

The State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a Food Service Worker to manage procurement, meal preparation, serving, and delivery within an institutional kitchen. You will supervise incarcerated individuals, ensure compliance with food codes, and maintain sanitation across all food service operations.

Responsibilities include training staff, documenting procedures, and assisting in the maintenance of inventories and equipment.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time work experience in mass food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional food services setting.
• A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (thirty semester hours of accredited coursework in dietetics, nutrition, food management or closely related equals one year of full-time experience).
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Cook 1, Cook 2, or Baker.

Responsibilities

• Ingredient Procurement, receive and issue all Food Service supplies to provide adequate inventories for meals; supervise and train incarcerated individuals in this area.
• Meal Preparation: prepare raw ingredients, follow recipes, supervise incarcerated individuals, and portion servings.
• Meal Serving: assemble medically prescribed diets, portion food on trays, ensure identical servings and sanitation.
• Food Delivery: deliver food/trays to alternate serving locations, maintain sanitation and temperature.
• Direct Incarcerated Individual Supervision: supervise incarcerated individuals, evaluate performance, and promote pro-social behavior.
• Departmental Security: ensure safety, lock control items, perform random checks and searches.
• Food Safety and Sanitation: maintain sanitation, document temperatures and sanitizer levels.
• Training: attend trainings, complete e-learning, and provide equipment training.
• Report Writing And Documentation: write reports, document behaviors, and complete duties.
