Job summary

Wyoming Department of Corrections is seeking a Food Service Specialist at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington. You will supervise inmate food service workers, ensure meals meet safety and dietary standards, and train staff in sanitation and procedures.

Role emphasizes inventory control, adherence to USDA standards, and maintaining a safe, respectful work environment while supporting inmate programs and treatment services.

Qualifications

• Progressive work experience in Food Services (2–4 years).
• Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and temperature controls.
• Understanding of meal preparation, quantity, and quality controls.
• Familiar with procurement, receiving and storage methods.
• Awareness of state and federal food preparation laws.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises food preparation for meals per menu and standards.
• Trains staff in safety, sanitation, and proper procedures.
• Directs dietary substitutions and religious/medical diets.
• Oversees portions, serving, and distribution of meals.
• Maintains inventory and conducts daily checks of knives and tools.
• Monitors temperatures of food, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Ensures a safe, respectful workplace and supports positive culture.
