Description Of Work

Carteret Correctional Center is a minimum custody facility. This position will:

1. Continuously observe and patrol the work areas in Food Service;
2. Perform crisis intervention counseling;
3. Compose and write comprehensive reports;
4. Perform rescue functions;
5. Operate locking devices and maintain keys;
6. Tolerate verbal and mental abuse from inmates;
7. Input and comprehend computer data;
8. Read, comprehend, and calculate menus;
9. Adhere to and observe sanitary food handling practices;
10. Requisition food and supplies within an allotted budget;
11. Instruct and supervise subordinate staff;
12. Make emergency decisions concerning Food Service operations and develop operating procedures.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Additional Information

Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. Salary may be adjusted based on experience, education, and internal equity. The new salary range effective January 1, 2025, will be $35,984 - $62,971.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities;
• Supervision of employees and/or inmate workers.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED, plus two years of experience in institutional food preparation, management of a commercial food service, or as a Correctional Officer; or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or equivalent education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
