Job description

Carteret Correctional Centeris a minimum custody facility. This position will continuously observe and patrol the work areas in Food Service; perform crisis intervention counseling; compose and write comprehensive reports; perform rescue functions. Position will be responsible for operating locking devices and maintaining keys. Must be able to tolerate verbal and mental abuse from inmates. Must be able to input and comprehend computer data. Must be able to read, comprehend, and calculate menus. Must adhere to and observe sanitary food handling practices. Must be able to requisition food and supplies with an allotted budget. Will instruct and supervise subordinate staff. Must be able to make emergency decisions concerning Food Service operations as well as plan and develop operating procedures.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

Note to Current State Employees:The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAYresult.

“As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $35,984 - $62,971.”

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
