Job summary

Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) seeks qualified instructors to educate inmates across NDCS facilities, including Lincoln's Reception and Treatment Center and Nebraska State Penitentiary. The role involves planning lessons, teaching multiple subjects, ESL, and supervising inmate aides.

Starting salary is $43,056 with additional pay based on contracted days, degree level, and experience, set under the SCATA contract. Full-time positions; Central Office coordinates duties.

Qualifications

• Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate.
• Background working with at-risk or high-risk students and/or in a correctional setting is preferred.
• Experience with highly differentiated learners on individualized learning paths and training in Orton-Gillingham; familiarity with online learning systems such as IXL, Essential Education, or SchoolsPLP.
• Computer skills to include Windows, Word, and Excel.
• Transcripts required prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Plan lessons for individual students and groups of students.
• Teach small and large group classes in math, science, social studies, reading, language, and ESL as needed.
• Work with students aged 14 to 65+ with a wide ability range.
• Utilize various online learning resources to integrate secure technology into lessons.
• Document classroom activities and student progress weekly.
• Maintain classroom supervision and discipline while supervising inmate teacher aides.
• Complete monthly payroll for incarcerated individuals.
• Identify student learning materials to recommend for purchase.
• Develop and produce learning boards, worksheets, tests, lessons and classroom tools.
• Maintain data system requirements related to Education LACES and NICaMS.
• Collaborate with staff to develop a team approach to education.
• Maintain tool control and inventory.
• Monitor designated areas for cleanliness and complete safety reports.
