Job summary

Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS is seeking Correctional Cadets to participate in training that prepares them for a full-time Correctional Specialist role at the Wyandotte County Adult Detention Center.

Cadets will learn entry-level skills, attend classes 3-4 times per week for roughly four hours daily, and may assist deputies in community engagement activities while maintaining professional conduct at work and in personal time.

Qualifications

• Senior (12th grade) at Wyandotte County High School in good standing
• Citizen of the United States
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Responsibilities

• Attend all required training classes and actively engage in classroom and hands-on activities
• Support Sheriff Deputies and staff in civilian activities including community engagement and recruitment events
• Learn entry-level skills such as customer service, work ethic and self-discipline
