A professional services organization is expanding its tax advisory and compliance capabilities and is seeking an experienced tax professional to join its team. This role will support a diverse client base with corporate tax accounting, compliance, reporting, and advisory needs while working alongside professionals across various areas of finance and tax.
Position Overview
The Corporate Tax Services Manager will oversee client engagements involving tax accounting, income tax provisions, corporate tax compliance, and related advisory matters. This position combines technical tax expertise with engagement leadership, client interaction, and team development.
The Manager will coordinate engagement activities, review complex tax work, communicate with client leadership, and support the development of less-experienced professionals. The role also offers opportunities to participate in tax planning, technical research, business development, and other strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead corporate tax accounting, provision, and compliance engagements from planning through completion.
- Oversee quarterly and annual income tax provision processes, including current and deferred tax calculations under ASC 740.
- Review federal, state, and consolidated corporate tax filings and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Work with client finance and tax teams to resolve complex tax accounting, compliance, and financial reporting matters.
- Conduct research on federal, state, and international tax matters and prepare or review technical memoranda.
- Manage engagement workstreams, establish priorities, monitor deadlines, and ensure high-quality client deliverables.
- Serve as a key point of contact for client stakeholders and communicate technical tax matters effectively.
- Coach and mentor Consultants and junior team members through technical guidance and performance feedback.
- Support tax planning projects, proposal development, client relationship initiatives, and business development activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, engagement execution, and overall client service.
Required Qualifications
- 4 - 8 years of experience in corporate tax, tax accounting, tax compliance, public accounting, consulting, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with income tax provisions under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax accounting.
- Experience managing or reviewing federal and state corporate income tax compliance engagements.
- Background preparing or reviewing corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapers.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements while maintaining accuracy, quality, and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with senior client stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience with a Big Four accounting firm.
- Experience managing quarterly and annual tax provision engagements, including effective tax rate analyses, tax account reconciliations, and current/deferred tax calculations.
- Experience with consolidated federal and state income tax compliance in multi-state or multinational environments.
- Strong technical research skills involving federal, state, and international tax regulations.
- Experience preparing or reviewing technical tax memoranda.
- Experience leading engagement teams, mentoring junior professionals, and serving as a primary client contact.
- Familiarity with corporate tax technology platforms such as GoSystem, ONESOURCE, CorpTax, or comparable systems.
Additional Qualifications
- CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification.
- Master’s degree in Taxation or another relevant graduate-level degree.
- Experience involving international tax, tax planning, tax controversy, or specialized tax projects.
- Experience contributing to proposals, business development efforts, or broader practice initiatives.
- Background working with clients across multiple industries and business environments.
