Responsibilities
- Be a trusted member of the team providing various tax and advisory services to many different types of nonprofits.
- Review and analyze nonprofit tax returns provide analysis and consultation and communicate with clients to discuss best practice nonprofit tax reporting.
- Deliver best-in-class customer service to clients at all times, with an emphasis on being responsive, timely, professional, and accurate
- Lead and plan client engagements, and continuously evaluate processes and procedures within the client services and implementation functions with emphasis on implementing efficiencies and identification of best practice tax reporting
- Manage and build client relationships, act as liaison to address and resolve client issues, and assist team leaders in researching and providing additional services to client
- Effectively delegate and oversee the work efforts by setting goals, providing resources, removing obstacles, and scheduling deadlines to meet client expectations for delivery
- Maintain current knowledge of federal and state nonprofit tax laws and regulations
- Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community
- Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs
Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree
- 7 years of experience in tax compliance and planning, including experience with tax-exempt organizations, partnerships, and/or healthcare-related structures
- 3 years in a management or leadership role
Preferred
- Experience with tax-exempt organizations, including preparation and review of Forms 990 and 990-T, and analysis of unrelated business income (UBIT)
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements impacting tax-exempt entities and partnerships
- Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies on compliance and audit matters
- Ability to assess business activities and transactions and communicate related tax implications to finance, legal, and operational leadership
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to partner effectively with accounting teams
- CPA, master's degree in taxation, MBA, JD, or relevant advanced certification preferred
