The Corporate Project DON plays a vital, hands-on role by providing interim nursing leadership at Acadia Healthcare facilities across the country. This position is ideal for an experienced nurse executive who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about making an immediate impact.

The Project CNO Will

  • Serve as the interim CNO or DON at facilities experiencing a leadership vacancy.
  • Provide extended onsite support to interim leaders when needed.
  • Facilitate a smooth transition during the onboarding of permanent nursing leadership.

This role is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and overseeing the delivery of high-quality behavioral health nursing services. The Corporate Project CNO ensures operational efficiency across departments while maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Travel is anticipated to be 90% including some over the weekend stays and will vary on facility needs.
  • Sets the vision for nursing practice in the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient centered care.
  • Anticipates and effectively manage changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of patient acuity/care needed.
  • Role models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team and on committees as required.
  • Manage the daily operations of nursing services.
  • Ensure nursing services are provided in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local governmental agencies. Standards are met for accrediting agencies.
  • Integrate nursing functions with clinical and programs, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Provide effective and efficient budget management that ensures the best utilization of resources.
  • Evaluate service needs and staffing requirements to ensure needs of patients are met.
  • Provide effective staff management (hiring, development, training, performance feedback, etc.) that ensures utilization of personnel to best meet the needs of the patients.
  • Develop and implement health care related training that assures the best possible delivery of health related supports and services. Review training at least annually and makes modifications as needed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation systems for continuity of care and record storage that assures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitor unit/floor functioning by making frequent rounds.
  • Intervene in crisis situations and investigate incidents.
  • Develop and implement tools to measure, assess and improve quality of nursing care, treatment and service.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development.
  • Oversee nursing services documentation to ensure it meets all standards.
  • Assists with direct care as needed.

Standard Expectations

  • Complies with organizational policies, procedures, performance improvement initiatives and maintains organizational and industry policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to person(s) receiving services and their family members, guests and other members of the health care team.
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in psychiatric or mental health nursing is required.
  • 10+ years of nursing experience strongly preferred. 6 or more years of nursing experience required.
  • Previous experience with the population of the facility required.
  • 5 or more years’ experience at the Director of Nursing level required.
  • Current state RN license is active and in good standing. Must be a compact license.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.
