Job description

  • We are seeking a highly organized, technically capable Fleet Technology & Connected Operations Manager to own the implementation, administration, and ongoing optimization of our fleet technology and connected operations systems. This person is the single accountable owner of the platform — from initial rollout, through adoption, to the measurable safety, efficiency, and cost outcomes the investment is expected to deliver.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys working in the details, solving problems, managing projects, and helping operational teams get more value from technology. This individual will serve as the primary internal owner of our Samsara platform and the connected systems around it (maintenance, dispatch, fuel, payroll, and ERP) and will work closely with Fleet, Safety, Operations, Maintenance, IT, and company leadership, as well as with our Samsara Customer Success and Support teams.

The right candidate does not need to be a software engineer or senior‑level technology leader. We are looking for someone who is highly comfortable with computers and systems, learns new technology quickly, is an excellent project manager, and is willing to get into the weeds to make sure things get done correctly. Equally important, this person must be comfortable in the yard and the shop — talking to drivers, technicians, and dispatchers — not just behind a screen.

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Serve as the primary internal administrator and subject matter expert for Samsara and related fleet technology systems.
    • Manage users, permissions, vehicles, assets, drivers, groups, tags, and other platform configurations, including role‑based access, SSO, and admin‑level controls.
    • Maintain accurate vehicle, driver, asset, and organizational data within the platform, and keep it in sync with the systems of record for HR, payroll, and asset management.
    • Configure dashboards, reports, alerts, workflows, and system settings based on business requirements.
    • Own compliance configuration and monitoring: ELD/Hours of Service, DVIR, driver qualification, IFTA and fuel tax reporting, and inputs that affect FMCSA CSA scores.
    • Administer the safety program inside the platform: camera and harsh‑event review queues, coaching assignments and completion tracking, driver safety scorecards, and behavior‑based incentive reporting.
    • Troubleshoot day‑to‑day system issues and coordinate with Samsara support when necessary. Track open tickets, RMAs, and hardware faults to resolution.
    • Manage the hardware lifecycle: device inventory, spares, installs and de‑installs on new and disposed equipment, and periodic install audits to confirm every asset is reporting.
    • Stay current on new Samsara capabilities and identify opportunities to expand how the organization uses the platform. Own the agenda for quarterly business reviews with our Samsara account team.
    • Ensure the company is consistently utilizing the technology it has purchased rather than allowing capabilities to go unused. Maintain a license and feature utilization review at least quarterly.
    • Maintain a configuration change log so system changes are documented, reversible, and communicated to affected teams.
  • Qualifications
    • 3+ years of experience in project management, systems administration, fleet operations, business operations, implementation, or a related role.
    • Strong computer and technology skills with the ability to quickly learn new software platforms. Advanced spreadsheet skills (pivot tables, lookups, data cleanup) required.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple departments and stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, dashboards, and reporting tools.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability to translate operational requirements into repeatable processes and system workflows.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Comfortable training and supporting users with varying levels of technical experience.
    • Self‑directed and willing to take ownership of projects from initial planning through execution and ongoing administration.
    • Willingness to earn Samsara Administrator certification within the first 90 days (company‑paid).
    • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to operating locations, yards, and shops approximately [10–25]% of the time.
  • Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is beneficial but not required:

    • Fleet management or fleet technology
    • Telematics or connected vehicle platforms
    • Samsara or similar fleet management platforms (Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Zonar)
    • Transportation, construction, field services, logistics, or other asset‑intensive industries
    • Safety or driver management systems
    • Maintenance management systems (CMMS) and preventive maintenance program design
    • Software implementation
    • Systems integrations, APIs, or low‑code automation tools
    • Process improvement or business analysis
    • DOT / FMCSA compliance, ELD administration, or DOT audit support
    • Change management or training delivery to a frontline, non‑desk workforce
