Upshop is the market leader in Total Store Operations solutions for the Grocery and C-Store markets. Overview of the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller responsible for all aspects of daily financial management, including global accounting operations (US, Canada, Europe), financial reporting, and internal controls. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will lead the accounting team across the US, Canada, and Europe. The candidate must be a hands-on manager with experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, global environment.

This is a key role in the company. We are looking for a positive, proactive, enthusiastic leader with software experience, US GAAP knowledge, and system setup skills. Upshop uses NetSuite for ERP and Salesforce for CRM.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and cash management.
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
• Manage and supervise 3 direct reports and outside contractors/advisors as required.
• Experience with revenue recognition for SaaS and perpetual software licensing models under ASC606 (or IFRS15).
• Develop strategies for future system implementations, enhancements, and upgrades.
• Collaborate with the CFO and leadership on M&A due diligence.
• Work closely with FP&A, Revenue Operations, and business unit leaders to provide actionable insights and analysis, both ad hoc and regular.
• Partner with FP&A and business units to develop predictable and credible financial reporting.
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting to ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage annual audits and the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Coordinate with international subsidiaries and external accountants to ensure compliance with local statutory requirements and consolidated reporting, including transfer pricing and intercompany eliminations.
• Handle sales tax, federal and state income tax filings, international tax, and other compliance matters.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Controller in a high-growth SaaS software environment.
• Formal accounting education and membership with an accounting body; CPA and/or CMA preferred.
• High ethical standards.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in practical application.
• Experience creating financial statements and managing month-end/year-end close processes.
• Extensive experience with NetSuite.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative style capable of effective communication at all levels.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work effectively within time constraints.
• Hybrid work capability, with the ability to work in-office in Austin or Toronto.
