Job description

Job Title: Corporate Controller

Location: Winchester, MA

Department: Operations

Reports To: President

Position Summary:

The Corporate Controller will oversee all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, state and federal regulatory compliance, proactive financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation and ongoing management, monthly media reconciliation, monthly and quarterly closes, 401k compliance, collaboration with external tax firm, and development of internal control policies and procedures. This role is pivotal in supporting the strategic growth of the agency by delivering accurate financial insights and ensuring compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will have experience in professional services or advertising/marketing environments and understand project-based revenue recognition. Experience with agency accounting software such as Workamajig is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Revenue Recognition, and Payroll.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee monthly vendor to project reconciliation.
  • Oversee monthly media invoicing and vendor to campaign reconciliation.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting team members; manage workload, professional development, and performance reviews.
  • Manage the agency's cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital.
  • Manage the agency's accounts receivables and accounts payables.
  • Coordinate with payroll service, 401(k) provider and other external services to ensure all appropriate filings are done.
  • Partner with client services and project managers to ensure accurate project costing, revenue forecasting, and profitability analysis on an ongoing basis.
  • Prepare all year end and quarterly information for external tax preparers.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, accounting changes, and tools relevant to agency operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in a creative agency, media, or professional services firm is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition in a project-based environment (ideally ASC 606).
  • Hands-on experience with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar); familiarity with agency platforms like Workamajig or Advantage is preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to leadership.
  • Demonstrable accounting references.
