The client is a life/annuity/reinsurance carrier that has gone public. A robust finance infrastructure has been created around SEC Reporting, Consolidations, Controls, Actuarial, and there is an ongoing focus on Investor Relations and building out a robust FP&A function. Due to a recent promotion, there is a need for a strong Corporate Controller with a life/annuity/reinsurance background who will complement the ongoing strengthening of the finance function supporting the future state. Relevant experience includes Accounting Policy, ModCo, and FWH, but the key ability for this role is to establish a robust close process. A strong project management framework around the close has been established, but the successful candidate should identify areas for efficiency, technology, and performance improvements.

This person will act as a close business partner to the CAO, CFO, and as a strategic partner to the BU CFOs, Chief Actuary, Capital, and Forecasting teams. Onboarding of the successful candidate will enable the CAO and CFO to further strengthen the finance organization. Compensation will be commensurate with a Corporate Controller in a publicly traded environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage and oversee timely and accurate consolidated US GAAP reporting for Form 10-K and 10-Q, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  2. Provide oversight for statutory and separate account reporting, collaborating with other direct reports to the CAO.
  3. Analyze financial results with business unit and legal entity controllers, present findings to senior management, and align results with budgets and forecasts.
  4. Enhance the control environment and implement process improvements in financial reporting, managing audits with external and internal auditors.
  5. Prepare presentations for the Board of Directors and its committees, and mentor junior team members.
  6. Demonstrate operational expertise in US GAAP, statutory, and SEC reporting, with advanced problem-solving skills.
  7. Show strong business and financial acumen, change management, and project management skills, with a history of upgrading functions and fostering continuous improvement.
  8. Optimize system platforms and streamline processes, including the financial close, leading an organization of at least 20 professionals.
  9. Exhibit influential leadership, adaptable leadership styles, and excellent communication skills.
  10. Display resilience and tenacity, persevering through challenges.
