Job summary

NorthStar Energy LLC in Seattle is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead accounting and shared services for the organization and its operating companies. This onsite role reports to the CFO and oversees close, consolidation, audits, and policy development.

The candidate should have 10+ years of accounting leadership, a strong GAAP background, ERP experience (PDI Enterprise preferred), and CPA where possible. The job includes a robust benefits package and a competitive salary range.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience in public or corporate settings.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and attention to detail.
  • Experience with ERP systems; PDI Enterprise preferred.
  • Experience with commodity accounting and hedge accounting concepts.
  • Experience in petroleum distribution or inventory‑intensive business would help.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly accounting close and consolidation for NorthStar and shared services.
  • Direct the shared services accounting function including credit, collections, billing, cash applications, AP, taxes, inventory and fixed assets.
  • Oversee annual audit process and financial statement preparation.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls per company policies.
  • Drive productivity improvements and develop accounting staff.
  • Develop and execute a roadmap for accounting and shared services improvements.
  • Provide leadership on accounting policy development and implementation.
  • Manage NorthStar bank accounts and treasury services.
  • Support M&A activities including earnings quality reviews and post‑integration work.
  • Oversee goodwill valuation.
  • Mentor and engage with the team in line with company values.

Salary Range: $171,668.00 To $240,000.00 Annually

Reporting to the CFO, responsible for the leadership and management of NorthStar Energy’s overall accounting and shared service functions (general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit, tax, and inventory), which is provided to certain NorthStar operating companies. Maximize the return on assets by administering financial policies, procedures, controls, compliance, and reporting systems that safeguard the assets to assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions.

This is an onsite position in our Seattle office, in office M-Th with remote Fridays.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the monthly accounting close and consolidation process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for NorthStar and shared services companies.
  • Direct the shared services accounting function including credit, collections, billing, cash applications, accounts payable, indirect taxes, inventory and fixed assets, providing exemplary service to the operating businesses, customers and vendors.
  • Oversee annual audit process and financial statement preparation.
  • Implement, modify, and monitor internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting, proper safeguarding of company assets and compliance with all Saltchuk accounting and reporting policies.
  • Drive productivity improvements throughout the accounting organization and increase organizational capability through training and development of both accounting and shared service personnel.
  • Develop and execute an accounting and shared service process improvement roadmap for NorthStar and all operating companies.
  • Provide leadership throughout the organization on accounting policy development and implementation.
  • Manage all NorthStar companies’ bank accounts and treasury services.
  • Support M&A activities including quality of earnings review, accounting valuation and post‑acquisition integration.
  • Oversee goodwill process and annual valuation.
  • Manage, mentor and engage with team and colleagues in a manner that reflects NorthStar’s values of cohesion, commitment, courage, and personal agency.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 10+ years’ experience in public accounting or a corporate accounting department with demonstrated career progression, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong ERP systems experience; experience with PDI Enterprise preferred
  • Experience implementing accounting systems and processes, scaling an accounting function, and driving continuous improvement processes
  • Experience with commodity accounting, derivatives and hedge accounting preferred, including understanding of mark-to-market accounting and related financial statement impacts.
  • Experience in petroleum distribution, energy, commodities, transportation, or another inventory‑intensive business preferred.
  • Working knowledge of inventory accounting, costing and working capital in a high‑volume operating environment.
  • Experience managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and other third‑party financial partners.
  • Experience with acquisitions, purchase accounting and post‑close integration.
  • Proven experience building, developing, mentoring and inspiring a high performing accounting team
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • CPA strongly preferred
