YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD SOMETHING - NOT JUST JOIN SOMETHING.
Carma Warranty is seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial, business-minded attorney to become our first in-house Corporate Counsel.
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated legal professional who wants to move beyond traditional legal practice and become an integral part of a growing, dynamic business organization.
We're not looking for someone who simply wants another legal job.
We're looking for someone who wants a challenge, welcomes responsibility, takes initiative, and thrives on making things happen.
As our first in-house counsel, you'll work directly with Carma's executive management team, serve as a primary liaison with our existing outside legal counsel, and help establish the legal processes and infrastructure that support our continued growth.
You'll be involved in the day-to-day business of building and supporting a growing company, including:
Executive Partnership: Work directly with executive management on business initiatives, legal considerations, operational challenges, and strategic decisions.
Outside Counsel Coordination: Serve as the central point of contact between Carma's management team and existing outside attorneys, ensuring timely communication, follow-through, and effective management of legal matters.
Contracts & Agreements: Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, vendor agreements, service agreements, and other business documents.
Employment & HR Support: Partner with management and Human Resources on employee onboarding, offboarding, employment agreements, policies, workplace concerns, and employment-related legal issues.
Regulatory & State Licensing: Help manage state licensing, registrations, renewals, regulatory requirements, and related compliance matters.
Corporate Affairs: Support corporate governance, documentation, business relationships, and legal aspects of organizational growth.
Legal Infrastructure: Develop practical policies, procedures, tracking systems, and processes that help the company operate more efficiently and responsibly.
Problem-Solving: Identify potential legal and business risks early, recommend practical solutions, and help management move forward confidently.
We're looking for an attorney who combines sound legal judgment with strong business instincts.
Someone who:
Takes initiative and follows through without needing constant direction.
Understands how businesses operate and how legal decisions affect growth, people, and profitability.
Is comfortable working directly with executives and department leaders.
Can balance risk management with practical business solutions.
Is organized, resourceful, accountable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Communicates clearly, builds relationships, and works effectively with outside counsel.
Brings positive energy, enthusiasm, professionalism, and a team-first attitude.
Wants to contribute meaningfully to the company's culture and long-term success.
Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
Approximately 3 or more years of relevant legal experience preferred.
Experience in corporate law, commercial contracts, employment law, regulatory compliance, or related business legal matters.
Strong understanding of business operations and commercial relationships.
Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with executive management and outside counsel.
Prior in-house counsel experience is welcome but not required.
Experience in regulated industries, consumer services, warranty products, or multi-state operations is a plus.
This position offers direct exposure to executive leadership, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to shape Carma's in-house legal function as the organization grows.
Because some professionals want predictability.
Others want possibility.
At Carma, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact, solve interesting problems, build relationships, contribute to a winning culture, and help shape the future of a growing organization.
