Job summary

State of South Carolina, Office of Mental Health, seeks a Law Enforcement Officer II – Corporal to supervise Public Safety Officers, maintain security, and ensure safety within a hospital setting at William S. Hall and G.W. Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia.

Requirements include a high school diploma, two years in law enforcement, and Class I certification through the SC CJ Academy. Bilingual abilities are a plus; State employment benefits apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required with public law enforcement experience.
• Two years of law enforcement experience required.
• Class I certification through SC Criminal Justice Academy required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise Public Safety Officers on grounds and inspections.
• Investigate reports of abuse, misconduct, property loss, and incidents; interview suspects and witnesses.
• Transport difficult patients to clinics or court hearings.
• Maintain order and enforce hospital rules and state laws.
• Conduct routine property searches and ensure proper securing of patients during transports.
• Maintain records, logs, and incident reports.
• Be on call and work overtime as needed.
