Job summary

The State of South Carolina is hiring a Sergeant for the BHDD-OMH Public Safety Division, located at Williams S. Hall and G.W. Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia.

The role leads law enforcement activities, supervises shift personnel, conducts investigations, and ensures CALEA compliance while coordinating trainings and certifications. Requires a high school diploma, Class I SC CJ Academy certification, and two years of law enforcement experience; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Class I certification through SC Criminal Justice Academy as required.
• Two years of experience in law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise shift personnel; assist in transporting clients as needed.
• Review reports on incidents and prepare detailed documentation.
• Ensure compliance with CALEA standards within sections.
• Coordinate and supervise security to maintain facilities’ safety and order.
• Supervise officers in enforcing violations and exercising arrest powers when needed.
