Job description

Drive Financial Accuracy and Business Insight in a High-Impact Aviation Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to support core financial operations and month-end close activities across a dynamic and growing airport portfolio.

This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and delivering the analyses and insights needed to support senior leadership decision-making.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join Avports, a trusted airport operator and manager with nearly a century of aviation experience and a growing portfolio of airports and public-private partnership projects across the United States and the Caribbean.

In this role, you will partner closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to strengthen accounting operations, support cash flow planning, improve processes, and help ensure timely, GAAP-compliant reporting in a fast-paced, operations-heavy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record and reconcile cash activity, including cash receipts, disbursements, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all general ledger accounts are properly supported.
  • Perform expense variance analysis, identify trends, and investigate significant fluctuations.
  • Review coding, and post corporate credit card transactions to the general ledger.
  • Review, reconcile payroll journal.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly accruals, prepaid expenses, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations, ensuring balances are accurate and resolved timely.
  • Ensure taxes, insurance premiums, and other required payments are processed on time to avoid penalties and service interruptions.
  • Provide backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Partner with site managers and third-party owners to resolve accounting issues and provide financial support.
  • Respond to auditor requests and prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Monitor accounting activities to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in operations-heavy or asset-intensive industries such as airports, transportation, infrastructure, or logistics.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, subledger-to-general ledger accounting, GAAP, internal controls, and audit support requirements.
  • Ability to analyze accounting transactions, identify variances, and deliver accurate financial reporting with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with ERP and payment systems such as Yardi and Bill.com; experience with other similar ERP systems is a plus, along with intermediate Excel reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality and accountability for financial processes.
  • Experience in airport operations, aviation services, regulated environments, private equity-backed companies, or high-growth organizations is a plus.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to travel domestically and internationally, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Must comply with applicable corporate facility and airport access requirements when visiting operational sites.
  • Primary work location is Northern Virginia (Dulles/Herndon), and candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance.
Why Join Avports
  • Join a trusted aviation company.
  • Support a growing airport portfolio.
  • Work closely with experienced leaders.
  • Drive process and systems improvements.
  • Grow through hands-on experience.
