Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a Core Mechanical Test Engineer for a contract role in Bellevue, WA. You will draft test requirements, develop test designs and procedures, and manage campaigns from concept to reporting while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates have a BS in engineering and 4+ years in testing/R&D, with experience in instrumentation and regulated environments. This role requires safety awareness and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering field; 4+ years in testing/R&D.
• Experience documenting experiments and post-processing results.
• Experience with multiple testing types: R&D, Acceptance, Validation, Qualification.
• Familiar with measurement tools and environmental exposure concepts.
• Knowledge of LabVIEW, SolidWorks, Jira/Confluence, and MS Office is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft test requirements and author test design documents and procedures.
• Translate requirements into actionable test specifications with instrumentation strategy.
• Define and validate measurement instrumentation (force, displacement, temperature, etc.).
• Coordinate fixture design, control system integration, and lab space planning.
• Manage test campaigns from concept through execution and reporting.

• Assist senior engineers in coordinating setup and commissioning of equipment.
• Promote learning of nuclear industry best practices for quality improvements.

Core Mechanical Test Engineer

Position Description

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Core Mechanical Test Engineer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in the drafting of test requirements.
• Author the test design documents, test procedures, test report, and supporting documents.
• Collaborate with internal customers to translate conceptual requirements into actionable test specifications, including design input, instrumentation strategy, and success criteria.
• Define, select, and validate measurement instrumentation including force, displacement, strain, and temperature sensors (e.g., load cells, LVDTs, encoders, RTDs, etc.).
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts including fixture design, control system integration, and lab space planning, leveraging technicians, designers, and facility personnel as needed.
• Manage test campaigns from concept through execution and reporting, including test setup, system validation, and post-test analysis.
• Support safe execution of testing activities, which may include working at elevated heights (typically under 60 ft).
• Under the guidance of Senior Test Engineers, support the coordination of testing activities for setup and commissioning of experimental equipment.
• Support continuous learningand application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain thehighest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of Engineering. Greater than four years of relevant experience in a testing / research and development environment preferred. Experience with post-processing and documenting experiments. Experience with multiple types of testing (R&D, Acceptance, Validation, Qualification). Experience working with strain, vibration, linear motion, static loading, dynamic loading preferred. Experience working on large complex mechanical systems preferred. Practical understanding of mechanical testing concepts such as force/displacement application, structural deflection, dynamic loading, vibration/impact, and environmental exposure. Awareness of common dimensional/inspection tools and motion capture technologies (e.g., Faro trackers, CMMs, OptiTrack), even if not directly operating them. Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives. Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week. Excellent writing and communication skills. Safety conscience: tests impact reactor safety and test planning impacts lab safety. Ability to operate within a lightly structured environment where test development requires a mix of standards-based guidance and first-principles problem solving. Familiarity with engineering tools such as LabVIEW, SolidWorks, Jira/Confluence, and the Microsoft Office 365 suite is preferred. Prefer candidates with experience in regulated environments, especially under nuclear regulations and standards (e.g. 10CFR50, ASME NQA-1). The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork. Strong communication skills desired.
