Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a PHT Product Development Component Engineer on a contract basis. The role focuses on overseeing first-of-a-kind large nuclear fluid pump designs through design and manufacture, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring scope, technical performance, and schedule targets are met.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Mechanical or related field with 10+ years of experience in mechanical systems, rotating machinery or heat exchangers, and strong communication

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical or related discipline with 10+ years of direct experience.
  • Experience with design and manufacture of rotating machinery or heat exchangers.
  • Supplier coordination and project management experience.
  • Experience across the full hardware lifecycle from cradle to grave.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and performFluid and structural analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee first-of-a-kind large nuclear fluid pumps through design and manufacture.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to meet scope, performance, and schedule.
  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical component designs.
  • Guide supplier projects, ensuring delivery of data and successful technical reviews.
  • Coordinate interfaces and handoffs between company, partners, and project teams.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues and risks with project management informed.
  • Apply correct design codes (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.).
  • Support design activity planning and schedule adherence within the plant delivery scope.
  • Manage drawing packages (P&IDs, 3D models, system interface drawings).
  • Define and maintain component requirements and specifications (Engineering Design Specifications).
  • Propose and oversee component qualification testing.
  • Produce design packages for systems and equipment, coordinating calculations and drawings.
  • Adapt to evolving responsibilities and learn specialized skills.

Position Title

PHT Product Development Component Engineer

Position Description

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract PHT Product Development Component Engineer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversight of first-of-a-kind large nuclear fluid pumps through design and manufacture.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities, ensuring project teams meet scope, technical performance, and schedule expectations.
  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical component designs for the reactor.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the Contract Administrator and Supplier Project Engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and handoffs between Company, partners, and interfacing project teams to enable cohesive design and fabrication strategies.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve emerging technical issues and risks, ensuring Engineering and Project Management are consistently informed.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant components such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule.
  • Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Establish and maintain component requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major plant equipment.
  • Propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant component qualification, as needed.
  • Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.

Job Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Experience with component design and manufacture of rotating machinery or shell and tube heat exchangers.
  • Supplier coordination and project management experience required.
  • Experience with full hardware lifecycle, from cradle to grave.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and the ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

  • Pay Rate Range: $62-$102 *Pay rates are approved based on candidate location, education and experience*
  • Location: 100% Remote

  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
