Job summary

St. Luke’s Health System is seeking a Lab Assistant 1 to support the pre-analytical processing of specimens and the preparation of specimens for testing, under direct supervision.

Responsibilities include transcription of orders, ensuring proper specimen labeling and storage, and basic processing. The role may involve POCT, patient instruction, and limited patient interaction, with a strong emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Education: High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 0 years’ experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: None

Responsibilities

• Transcribe laboratory testing orders accurately.
• Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
• Basic specimen processing and distribution to testing areas.
• Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure accurate collection and reduce anxiety.
• Handle basic patient complications and escalate concerns to leadership.
• Comply with PPE requirements and maintain a safe, clean workspace.
• May register patients or provide courier services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
