Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in the United States seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Core Laboratory and Phlebotomy Sections within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program, reporting to the Supervisory Medical Technologist.

The successful candidate will accessions samples, enter orders into the LIS, ensure proper specimen collection, process samples, and maintain inventory while supporting QA and patient care for veterans.

Qualifications

• Must possess MLT certification from ASCP/AMT/AB.
• Citizenship and English language proficiency as required.
• Experience or ability to work under supervisory guidance in a lab.
• Ability to meet basic VA qualification standards and KSAs.

Responsibilities

• Accessions samples and enters testing orders into the LIS.
• Ensure correct specimen collection, labeling, and handling per protocol.
• Process samples via centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage for testing.
• Communicate specimen priorities and coordinate with testing sections.
• Transcribe lab reports into the LIS and maintain inventory of supplies.
• Work under supervisory medical technologist with defined deadlines and priorities.
