Job summary

UNC Health Nash is seeking a Core Lab Coordinator to support the NGH Laboratory. The role involves preparing, logging, sorting, and delivering specimens to the appropriate lab testing area and performing data entry tasks.

It may include more complex processing across Microbiology, Cytology, and send-outs, with access to the laboratory computer system as needed. The position is onsite in Nash, NC, with a 24-hour per week schedule and a variable work pattern.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in a Science related field is required.
• Registry or eligibility as a phlebotomist or science-related field is required.
• Specialty Certification preferred if available.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate phlebotomy communications for day-to-day operations.
• Perform add-ons for Chemistry.
• Coordinate the send-out area for reference lab testing.
• Specimen processing.
• Collaborate with departmental and system-wide staff, supervisory and management personnel, physicians, patients, and outside referral representatives to facilitate timely actions.
• Perform other duties as requested.
• Operate and/or maintain departmental equipment and work areas.
• Perform laboratory tests and procedures as required.

Summary:
Prepares, logs, sorts, and/or delivers specimens to appropriate lab testing area. Performs data entry responsibilities. The Core Lab Coordinator is involved in more complex processing which could include, but not limited to Microbiology processing, frozen splits, send-outs, Cytology processing, etc. Specific functions will require additional access in the laboratory computer system.
