Job summary

UNC Health Nash is seeking a Core Lab Coordinator to prepare, log, sort, and deliver specimens to appropriate lab areas. The role includes data entry and more complex processing, such as Microbiology processing, frozen splits, send-outs, and Cytology processing with additional lab system access.

The position requires an Associate's in a science-related field, phlebotomy registry or eligibility, and 1 year of health care experience; specialty certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in a science-related field.
• Registry (or eligibility) as a phlebotomist or science-related field.
• Specialty certification preferred.
• 1 year of health care experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates phlebotomy communications for day to day.
• Performs add-ons for Chemistry.
• Coordinates the send out area for reference lab testing.
• Specimen processing.
• Collaborates and communicates with departmental and system-wide staff, supervisory and management personnel, physicians, patients, and with various outside referral representatives to facilitate timely and effective actions and decisions.
• Performs other duties as requested.
• Operates and/or maintains departmental equipment and work areas.
• Performs laboratory tests and procedures as required.

Summary

Prepares, logs, sorts, and/or delivers specimens to appropriate lab testing area. Performs data entry responsibilities. The Core Lab Coordinator is involved in more complex processing which could include, but not limited to Microbiology processing, frozen splits, send-outs, Cytology processing, etc. Specific functions will require additional access in the laboratory computer system.
