Job summary

Piper Sandler is seeking a Core Infrastructure Engineer - Professional to join the Platform Engineering team in Minneapolis, MN. You will support and improve on-premises and cloud infrastructure, leading small-to-medium projects and driving technical decisions.

The role emphasizes reliability, observability, and security; you will enhance Datadog monitoring, dashboards, and alerts while growing your infra expertise and partnering with security, networking, and cloud teams.

Qualifications

3–6 years of systems administration or infrastructure engineering experience.
Hands-on VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter experience.
Windows Server and Linux administration experience.
Experience with enterprise storage (SAN/NAS/RAID).
Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS or Azure).
Hands-on experience with Datadog monitoring.
Ability to interpret infrastructure metrics and logs.
Experience with patching, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, backup and incident response.
Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
Proven ability to lead infrastructure projects.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Willingness for on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter).
Support physical and virtual servers and Windows/Linux OS, storage, backup platforms.
Maintain infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Use Datadog to create monitors, dashboards, alerts, and reports; reduce alert noise.
Perform OS and infrastructure patching, upgrades, lifecycle management, and remediation.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents outside business hours.
Lead selected infrastructure projects from requirements to handoff.
Monitor capacity, performance, availability, reliability, and security.
Maintain technical documentation and disaster-recovery plans.
Collaborate with security, networking, application, cloud, and business teams.
Automate tasks using scripting, configuration management, and IaC tools.
Support architecture planning, roadmaps, budgeting, and risk management.
