Think Tank, Inc. seeks a Laboratory Assistant for the NOAA Galveston Deep Sea Coral Laboratory to operate coral culture facilities, maintain live organisms, and assist with disease studies under guidance of the Program Manager. Responsibilities include data entry and outreach support.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s in marine sciences with 2+ years of coral culture experience, and a valid U.S. driver’s license. Willingness to comply with safety training is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in marine sciences or related biology field and at least 2 years' experience maintaining coral culture systems.
• Knowledge of water quality, aquaculture/mariculture, and animal husbandry concepts.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and learn sea turtle husbandry and recognize animal behaviors on the job.
• Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license.
• Desirable: knowledge of marine life, preferably corals, and water quality/animal husbandry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining recirculating culture systems, monitor water quality, and report malfunctions to senior staff.
• Assist in routine care of live coral specimens under optimum conditions, including tank setup/cleaning for recovery of ESA coral species.
• Cultivate live foods and feed corals; record data on water quality and coral health; participate in safety training.
