Job Description
- Experience Required: 1 to 3 years
- Experience Desired: Working in loading dock operations, dispatch, or distribution center operations in a unionized environment or logistics-related fields; 1 to 3 years of experience in customer service, logistics, or transportation desired.
- Education Desired: High school diploma or equivalent
- Lifting Requirement: Up to 25 pounds
- Travel Required: None
- Age Requirement: At least 21 years of age
Job Responsibilities
- Determine when additional workers are needed to fulfill production requirements.
- Communicate needs of temporary help to Union representatives; prepare driver bid sheets and direct bidding process to ensure prompt, expedient dispatching of trailers; and prepare tractor lists periodically during shift to ensure equipment availability.
- Oversee stock levels of equipment supplies and work activities of transportation personnel to ensure responsibilities are accomplished according to department procedures.
- Perform administrative procedures related to compliance with government regulations controlling motor carriers and commercial drivers.
- Record accurate information regarding employee report-offs to maintain correct attendance records.
- Maintain current, organized files of driver trip sheets and palletizing sheets for easy access to information.
- Ensure timely arrival of backhauls according to specific schedules.
- Answer incoming calls professionally; respond to inquiries and reports, and determine which can be handled immediately or referred to appropriate personnel. Take complete, accurate messages and forward them accordingly.
