Coordinates the delivery of outpatient PT and OT services provided at the UI Health. The Coordinator of Outpatient Therapy serves as a resource within and outside the department in the area of outpatient physical and occupational therapy services and has responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with departments and professionals related to these services. They teach and/or perform research related to this specialty. The Coordinator provides clinical services within her or his individual scope of clinical competence and is responsible for all administrative tasks related to the patient care services they provide and as required for regulatory and organizational compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administrative activities including:
  • Oversees the scheduling and prioritizing of patients and activities for outpatient therapy services.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment needed for the outpatient therapy services.
  • Communicates with nursing unit managers and other clinical teams with regard to clinical and operational
  • issues involving outpatient therapy.
  • Develops and maintains open communication and a multidisciplinary approach through attendance at
  • rounds, clinics, and through informal contact.
  • Participates in recruitment, selection, orientation and evaluation of outpatient therapy staff.
  • Participates in the development of quality indicators for inpatient therapy, in data collection and analysis
  • and in determining changes that will improve the quality and efficiency of outpatient therapy services.
  • Provide professional therapy services in accordance with the standards established by the professional
  • association and other relevant regulatory requirements. Oversees the care provided by physical therapist trainees.
  • Indirect Patient Care (IPC) - documentation that is not part of treatment session, scheduling, attending
  • team or family meetings and rounds, ordering equipment, assisting other staff
  • Teach section clinical specialty knowledge and skills to departmental staff and students. Teach in academic
  • programs within the discipline and in other programs.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • (Alternative productivity expectations may be determined within this classification based on fluctuating needs of the department)
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:

    1. Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in Illinois from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation at time of employment
    2. Five (5) years (60 months) of professional clinical experience with a minimum of two years in the setting they are overseeing comparable to that gained as a Physical Therapy Specialist


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prefer at least 3 years of experience in managing an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
    • Prefer Spanish-speaking.
    • Prefer experience with Epic EMR
